We have a team of world class experts led by Dr. Jack Newman who are devoted to helping mothers overcome numerous issues that otherwise might lead to stopping breastfeeding. Referral: The Newman Breastfeeding Clinic requires two separate referral forms: One for the breastfeeding parent and one for the baby (or each baby, in the case of multiples). Referrals from either a doctor or midwife or nurse practitioner are acceptable. ***Referrals must be received on or before your appointment date. *** Please print your referrals and have your health care provider complete them. Appointment: You will be seen by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and the Pediatrician on staff that day: Dr. Jack Newman, Dr. Aviva Lowe, Dr. Eitan Weinberg or Dr. Pooja Prabhu. IBC is a teaching facility. We have students, interns and residents who work with us. You and your baby may be seen by a student/intern/resident in addition to a lactation consultant and pediatrician during your visit. You have the option of refusing students /interns / residents . Appointments are 60 – 90 minutes and twin appointments are 3 hours long. Our staff will be supporting you and your baby (babies) directly to help you overcome breastfeeding difficulties. You are welcome to bring a partner or support person with you. To make an appointment at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic, please fill out the form below and provide your payment. Each appointment is $77.00 + HST ($87.01) to cover the fees of the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants which are not covered by OHIP.
Private Insurance Plans: Please check with your insurance provider. Companies such as Manulife, Great West Life, Sunlife and Green Shield recognize the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential, however you will have to check your individual policy to determine your level of coverage. Some companies cover lactation support under a health care spending account and others need a doctors note.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Once you have scheduled an appointment, you will be able to cancel or reschedule the appointment without penalty up to 48-hours before the appointment (not including Fridays, weekends and holidays). For appointments scheduled on a Monday, you will be able to cancel or reschedule until 4pm on the Thursday before.
If you cancel or reschedule your appointment less than 48-hours in advance, as outlined above, we are unable to provide a refund.
TONGUE-TIE AND LIP-TIES
Tongue-tie and lip-tie assessments are generally performed at each visit at the Newman Breastfeeding Clinic. We may recommend tongue and/or lip-tie release(s) as part of your care plan based on our physical exam of the area(s), our assessment of the latch, presenting breastfeeding challenges/symptoms, and the age of the baby, amongst other factors. A tongue and/or lip-tie release procedure may not necessarily be performed, even if that was the reason for which you and your baby were referred.
For a tongue or lip-tie release to be performed, your baby must have received a vitamin K shot either at birth or at least 24 hours before your appointment.
